The Gonzales Youth Center was established almost 22 years ago to provide a safe, supervised and welcoming environment for middle school students ages 12-15. Operating year round, GYC offers a wide range of programs that address the personal, educational and social development of young people from diverse racial, cultural and economic backgrounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Management:
- Carries out the policies, procedures, strategic plans and objectives adopted by the Board.
- Develops and maintains a strong working relationship with the Board, acts as an advisor to the Board on all aspects of GYC activities and serves as an ex officio member of the Board and its sub-committees.
- Takes a lead role with the Board to develop both strategic and long-term plans to guide GYC operations.
- Oversees the effective operation of the GYC. Provides staff and volunteers with adequate training, day-to-day supervisory support and adequate resources to carry out their work.
- Recruits, hires and trains qualified staff. Coaches and mentors staff and volunteers as appropriate, and conducts annual performance evaluations.
Budget & Financial Management:
- Works with the staff and Board Finance Committee to prepare an annual budget.
- Ensures that sound bookkeeping and accounting practices are followed and that GYC complies with all state and federal tax regulations and reporting.
- Administers GYC funds in accordance with the Board approved budget and monitors cash flow on a monthly basis.
- Submits monthly financial reports and a comprehensive annual report to the Board that accurately reflects GYC financial condition.
- Oversees the production of an annual financial statement for incorporation in the GYC “Annual Report” that is distributed to major donors and constituents.
Fund Raising & Communications:
- Leads the Development Committee in identifying potential funding sources (individuals, corporations, foundations) and in creating individualized strategies to cultivate and solicit them.
- Writes funding proposals, case statements and solicitation letters.
- Oversees the planning and evaluation of fund raising campaigns and special events.
- Oversees the production of newsletter, brochures, press releases and other print media as well as the content of GYC’s internet and social media sites.
- Represents GYC’s mission and activities to constituents, donors, the media and the public.
- Builds and maintains sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with County community groups, organizations and agencies and area colleges and universities.
QUALIFICATIONS *
Education, Experience and Skills:
- A Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience
- Significant management experience recruiting and supervising staff and/or volunteers, preferably in a related social service field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive relationships with young people in a multicultural, multiracial environment
- Knowledge of fund raising strategies & donor relations unique to the nonprofit sector
- Solid budget planning and financial management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and computer skills
- Ability to converse in Spanish is a plus

Salary & Working Environment
- This is a full time position with some weekend or evening work required, i.e. attendance at Board meetings and community events. The Director’s office is located at the Youth Center.
- Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. The salary range is between $40,000 and $45,000 annually.

Program Coordinator

Job Description – Program Coordinator

Job Description – Program Coordinator
The Program Coordinator is responsible to coordinate activities and functions for the youth of the Gonzales Youth Center to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications.
Areas of Responsibility:
1) Manages the Youth Programs
- Will develop, coordinate, monitor and/or supervise the day to day programs offered to the youth at the Gonzales Youth Center
- Will develop a working schedule for the programs and events to be offered to the youth
- Will present and have schedule approved by the executive director
- Once approved, will share the schedule with members, staff, local schools, parents, newspapers, interested community members and board members
- Will have any funding requests for specific programs approved by the executive director at least a week in advance
- Will be expected to work 30 hours a week, and to be at the Center during operating hours, M-Th 3:30 – 6 and Saturday 3-10 as well as other times as needed to carry out responsibilities, attend staff meetings, or as directed by the executive director.
- Will obtain and maintain a CDL to be a back-up bus driver for the Gonzales Youth Center bus
- Will communicate effectively with the executive director regarding work environment, needs, hours, and successes
2) Supports and Works with the Board
- Will attend monthly meetings with the Board of Directors to provide a report regarding current successes, plans and needs
- Will carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board
- Will communicate to the board all information necessary for them to function properly and make informed decisions
- Will attend board meetings in the place of the executive director when the executive director is unable to attend
3) Fund Raising & Communications
- Will assist the executive director, the board, and other staff in all fundraising planning for the Gonzales Youth Center
- Will actively participate in all fundraising activities for the Gonzales Youth Center
- Builds and maintains sound working relationships with GYC’s community partners and supporters
- Represents GYC’s mission and activities to constituents, donors, the media and the public
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience and Skills:
- High School Diploma and experience working with non profits and/or children’s organizations
- Minimum of a 2 year history of successfully working with children ages 11-15, providing appropriate supervision and the ability to engage the youth positively and in the programs provided
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate in both written and verbal areas, to include computer skills
- Knowledge of non-charitable organizations and fundraising participation
- Understands and fully embraces GYC’s mission, values, and vision
- Passes all background checks to include criminal and children’s protective services
- This position will include weekend and evening work at times.
- $15 per hour
